In comparison to a blackboard discussion, I think that Twitter is more easy accessible. Using hashtags and @ for direct messages to a certain person, makes it easier to see what is going on. You also get notifications when someone responds to you on twitter or if someone you follow on twitter posts something new, whereas blackboard does not. I do prefer blackboard discussion however, because it keeps everything from the class can be found there, and the 'feed' does not have other posts. Both discussions are very different then an in-class discussion because you are limited to a certain character count (Twitter), it also not as personal. Although, it is more convenient, because you have more time to respond to others. Each type of discussion has positives and negatives associated with them.
